Sharpham Meadow Burial Ground
This structure embraces and shelters mourners, offering a quiet space for reflection.
Sharpham Meadow Natural Burial Ground offers an ecological and ceremonial alternative to traditional burial or cremation.
The main structure has been designed to be as low impact as possible, reducing carbon emissions through fabric-first material selection. The foundations are concrete free, built from local stone and lime mortar. The walls are cob, a mixture of earth and straw, dug from the site.
The timber columns and roof beams were all harvested (sustainably) from the Sharpham Estate, and processed by local carpenters.
Located with views over the stunning River Dart, the building is part of a journey, a place to pause and to pay final respects, before moving on to lay loved ones to rest.
